2. What role does texture have in the composition? (Detail, pattern, space, and/or design). Be specific, if texture missing or weak include also.
Tina
In design texture usually refers to the association of the sense of touch with a purely visual element. The image makes good use of texture as space to fill both the foreground with water and the background with clouds or sky. The water rising up does give a wet or watery texture to the image that fits in with the promotion of sustainability, specifically towards protecting our water resources. Texture is being used to provide detail in the rising water. Also, the clouds in the background provide a layered textured look that complements the water rising. The human hand holding and lifting a small planet earth globe with a tree growing out of the top of the globe provides a contrasting texture from the water and sky textured spaces of the image. The roots of the tree provide a vein appearance to the globe. The “Conserve Water” text is used with the water textured background. I found the text somewhat difficult to read because of both the image’s small size and the use of black over dark-blue colored water. The text, “Don’t let me fall thru the cracks” in the upper left corner required me to read each word individually because of the font. I would have selected a more readable font.
3. How is color used in the overall composition? Which colors dominate which reinforce the concept? How is color value used in composition?
Color is used overall to draw the main focus of the entire piece, water. Blue is the dominate color which of course reinforces this concept, from the sky, to the earth, to the water below, it is all tied any with a common factor of the primary color blue. The primary colory of blue is also supported by white to show depth in the water and the sky as clouds. I think that it was a good choice to shade the water splashing even more than the water below to seperate the sky from the water.
1. How is value used in the composition? (Creates 3-d, use of light and dark, mood, contrast). Be specific, if value missing or weak include that also.
I think value was used very creative. I like how there is different value in the blue color of the water. Also, on the earth the value is really present. great job!

Q1. How is value used in the composition? (Creates 3-d, use of light and dark, mood, contrast). Be specific, if value missing or weak include that also.
A1. I think this is a really good composition. It looks to me like the hand is holding the last drop of water and that by holding the last drop, many plants (the tree)are being saved. The value of the piece looks good. Maybe the drops need more highlight. Work a little on the color of the top letters and the tree has some white that probably doesn’t go there or blend it with the clouds. I loved the way you put it together. Great job!
